History of Fermoy

Instituted 1893 affiliated 1905

Local legend claims that golf was first played at Fermoy in 1887, but there is no evidence to support the claim. The Irish Times of 11th May 1892, records a match between the "Officers 1st Seaforths and Lismore Golf Club, played at Fermoy yesterday".

The early years of golf in Fermoy are closely linked with the British Regiments stationed there. The course was first located at the Race Course. In 1934, the club was located at the highest point on the northern side of the town, beside the aerodrome.

In 1970, the club moved to its present location at Corrin, where an eighteen-hole course was laid out.
