History of Lismore
Instituted 1965 affiliated 1967
There is plenty of evidence to prove that golf was played at Lismore long before the present club was founded. The "Sportsman's Holiday Guide" 1897, records "The Lismore golf course have their course about half a mile out of the town on very high ground, overlooking the Blackwater and commanding fine views of the surrounding country. The number of holes is eight, the distance around is about one mile and the holes average a little over 200 yards in length
There is an account of a match between the Lismore Golf Club and the 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders at Fermoy in 1892. There is an entry in the "GUI Yearbook" on Lismore as late as 1946. The club would appear to have gone into decline after this until it was revived in 1965.
