Kilcock Golf Course

Kilcock Club Crest

Kilcock Golf Club was founded in 1984 and was originally an 9-hole Parkland, it wasn't long however before it was decided to extend to the full 18-holes. Eddie Hackett undertook the task of marrying the old with the new and was so successful that even some of the original members have difficulty distinguishing between what where the old nine and the new nine.

Measuring 5,879 metres off the white tees with a Par 72 and a standards scratch of 70, the ladies play the course as a Par 74 with a standard scratch of 73. Kilcock is mature generous Parkland with tree-lined fairways, large greens and tee-boxes. It is a fair and challenging golf course for players of all standards.

Kilcock Golf Club have made major strides since I first played it many years ago, they have extended their clubhouse to provide the golfer with his or her every need a very warm welcome awaits the visitor to this Co. Meath golf club only a short distance from Dublin.

Members Achievements

Lady Captain Betty Woulfe and her Captain's Prize winner Gay Hegarty got through the final regional qualifiers in the Volkswagen-Irish Independent Lady Captain's Classic at Headfort Golf Club in September 2001. Betty playing off 19 and Gay off 21 posted a score of 37 points, which was enough to get them into 3rd place. They booked their place in the National Finals at Druid's Glen on the 1st of October.

Prior to 2001:

The Millennium Captain, Sean Dowling didn't let the pressure of office affect his golf. In the month of June, 2000, Sean saw his Handicap plummet from 16 to 10, giving his handicap secretary great pleasure!

History of Kilcock

Founded 1984, affiliated 1985.

Kilcock Golf Club was founded in 1984 after a group of locals decided that they had enough of travelling to and fro every weekend to find somewhere to play a game of golf.

In 1984 Gerry Canning developed 9 holes on some land that he owned locally and Kilcock GC was born. It had a very small membership to start with and they were primarily from the locality. A warm friendly atmosphere was quickly established and the membership began to grow.

In 1990 Mr. Canning purchased some extra land to construct a second 9 holes and Kilcock became an eighteen hole course. The course was originally designed by Eddie Hackett and provided a reasonable test for most golfers with small tricky greens and a mix of short and long Par fours with varying degrees of difficulty.

In 1999 / 2000 another chapter was written in the history of the club when the opportunity arose for the members to purchase the club from Mr. Canning. After a lot of hard work from the then committees, a plan was put together and passed in the Spa Hotel, Lucan at a General Meeting of the Membership.

A new machinery shed was to follow in the next few years and some work on the course including mounding and a drain across 4 of the new 9 holes. The membership continued to grow and Kilcock was now well and truly established. It quickly gained a reputation for its friendliness, a welcoming atmosphere and excellent catering. In 2003 a new locker room facility was erected with Ladies and Gents locker rooms and new showers.

The latest chapter in its short history was written in June 2007 when at a meeting of the membership a development plan known as PLAY 52 was unanimously passed. This involved a spend of €2.2 million on installing sand based greens, sand based tee boxes, major drainage and an automatic irrigation system. The opportunity would be used to remodel some of the key feature holes on the course and give us an even bigger and better challenge.

Our car park was surfaced and a new entrance with an electric gate and a boundary wall was constructed to give our club the look it now deserved. Phase 1 of PLAY 52 was completed and opened on schedule and within budget on 5th May 2008 and Phase 2 commenced in late August of the same year. It is hoped that if all goes to plan Phase 2 will be completed by May 2009 at which stage we will have 18 new holes in play.

They have come along way in a short time and we are now in a position to reap the rewards of our endeavours over the last few years.
