Maine Valley Golf Course

Maine Valley Club Crest

The Course is among the most scenic anywhere, overlooking the River Laune as it enters Dingle Bay and the Atlantic. The Laune is the river that drains Killarney’s famous lakes.

The course is overshadowed on one hand, by the Slieve Mish range of the Dingle peninsula and by the majestic MacGillicuddy Reeks, on the other. 18-holes, parkland course, designed by the great (late) Eddie Hackett, who, among many others, also designed Waterville and Killarney’s O’Mahony’s Point and Killeen courses, and was a consultant at Dooks Golf Club. Killorglin opened in 1992 and the course is now maturing very nicely. Eddie Hackett was, enchanted by the site.

Along with its neighbouring clubs, Dooks and Beauford, Killorglin healed a special open in June 2002, with all proceeds being donated to the Special Olympics, which Ireland hosted in June 2003.

History of Maine Valley

Maine Valley Members Golf Club was established in June of 2020. It began as an amalgamation of the members of what was the then Killorglin Golf Club and members of Castleisland Golf Club.

The name ‘Maine Valley’ was borne from the fact that the River Maine starts near Castleisland and enters the sea not far from the golf course itself in Killorglin.

Castleisland Golf Club was founded in 2002. The idea of a golf course was first discussed in 1999 when a 200 acre site was secured. This site formed the Castleisland shooting ground and was owned by Mr. Richard Walsh. He ended up constructing the golf course for the  Castleisland golf club committee.

A number of prominent architects were asked to view the site and make submissions and after tedious investigating, the job was allocated to Dr. Arthur Spring. The course remained open until early 2020.

Killorglin Golf Club was built in 1992 by Billy Dodd. In the beginning it was a 9 hole course later increasing to an 18-hole par 72 parkland course designed by renowned Irish golf architect Eddie Hackett.

The course has received rave reviews, for its stunning views of Dingle Bay and the MacGillicuddy’s Reeks mountain range as much as for the quality of Hackett’s challenging layout.

The attached club disbanded in early 2020 to be replaced by Maine Valley Members Golf Club

Founded 1993

Golf was played at Killorglin as far back as the mid 1890s. "The Sportsman's Holiday Guide" 1897 states "There is a nine-hole course here which is open to visitors at any of the hotels. The course is considered to be a very sporting one".

It would appear the course did not survive very long and was a commercial enterprise. It was not until 1992 that the game resurfaced again when an eighteen-hole course was opened at Stealroe. The first President was Billy Dodd, the first Captain was Ger Counihan and Lady Captain, Kathleen Roche.
