History of Kenmare
Instituted 1903 affiliated 1922
Kenmare Golf Club was opened as a 9-hole golf course in 1903 and was extended to a championship 18-hole in 1993. The course was designed in 1993 by Eddie Hackett an Irish Golf Course Architect who was born in Dublin in 1910.
Percy Joy was the main driving force behind golf in Kenmare and was Hon. Secretary in 1903. A member of the R.I.C., he had to relinquish his position due to being transferred in 1905.
He and others got the necessary ground from the Lansdowne Estate and a nine-hole course was built close to the Southern Hotel in 1903.
