Members Achievements

2005 Lady Captain Caroline Kennedy and her Captain’s Prize winner Kate Overend qualified in the Volkswagen/Irish Independent Lady Captain’s Classic in this scotch foursomes format. It was off to the National Finals at The Heritage Golf Club on Monday 3rd October where they were paired with the Edmondstown pair of Elizabeth Caffrey and Dorothy McKenna.

History of Carrickmines

Instituted 1900 affiliated 1901

Carrickmines lists among its founder-members, H. J. Daly, Hon. Secretary Golfing Union. A report in the Irish Golfer, dated 6th April, 1904, giving the origins of the club states "It was founded about four years ago and only those who had previously seen the ground can fully appreciate the pluck of those two sportsmen, W. H. Wilson and Andrew Armstrong, in purchasing the tenants' interest in that wilderness which has been transformed.

The ground was practically covered with bracken, and a good portion of it with granite boulders, black-and whitethorn and brambles. However, almost immediately, early in 1900, a number of foundation members combined together, who were not afraid to go ahead.

They formed a committee and appointed one of themselves, N. H. Hone as Secretary, and to his indefatigable energy and knowledge of what work should be done and how to set about it is due the lion’s share in the success of the undertaking"

The Irish Field, on 17th January, 1914, reported a second nine under construction, however it would seem these plans were scrapped due to the Great War.

The story of Carrickmines Golf Club 1900-2000 "On Carrickmines Hill" was published during their centenary year.
