Donaghadee Golf Course

Donaghadee Club Crest

Boasting magnificent views of the Irish Sea, Copeland Island and the Scottish coast, Donaghadee’s fantastic par 71, 18 holes throws up a number of surprises more than capable of catching out the unsuspecting golfer!

The bunker strategy of the part links, part parkland course is currently under special development.  As a result, the updated course is proving exceptionally popular with members and visitors alike!  Similarly popular is the Club’s latest addition – the Donaghadee Golf Club Practice Academy.

Completely unique to local golf, the award nominated Donaghadee Golf Club Practice Academy boasts up to 9 holes constructed and bunkered to the most stringent USGA specifications.  The cleverly designed six holes on the outfield of the course also double as a short range, making this fantastic addition to Donaghadee Golf Club’s par 71 main course ideal for perfecting the short-game of even the most experienced players, as well as newcomers to the sport.

Societies, visitors and new members are welcome throughout the year.  Please visit website or telephone for further information and special offers

Instituted 1899 affiliated 1900

In the winter of 1898 a committee of LT. Co. Louis De-Lacherois, Adam Duffin, and William Gabbey, took up the call for a golf links. Twenty-two acres were leased from the local squire Daniel DeLacherois and Mr. William Fernie of Troon, Scotland was retained to plan the links. The lay-out had three-holes bordering the water’s edge, in the Warren and the other six-holes were on the landward side of the main road. Sixteen members attended the inaugural meeting and the course opened on Friday 28th July 1899 at 4.00 pm. The official opening was carried out by, Lord Londonderry of Mount Stewart, assisted by his daughter Lady Helen Stewart and his son Viscount Caslereagh. The club has enjoyed the patronage of Ramsey McDonald and Herr Von Ribbentrop.

On the 5th July, 1902 the new club pavilion was opened and in the summer of 1907 a further 70 acres were leased from the DeLacherois family and the new clubhouse was opened on 27th July that year and the new eighteen-holes were opened. Over the years there have been many alterations and extensions. The last major facelift took place in 1992 and the, official opening was preformed by Mrs G. M. Stone, the niece of Louis DeLacherois.

The first professional was Alexander Gray in 1909 and he was also the first green keeper in 1899.
