Beaufield House & Mews has been in the possession of the Kirwan family since 1930. It opened originally as an Antique shop in one room, opening only at night serving tea & homemade biscuits made by the kids who earned a little for pocket money from their mother, Doreen Kirwan. Doreen would visit the auction rooms around Dublin and the country gathering a lovely electic collection of crockery & furniture. She enjoyed it that little bit too much and stock grew higher than demand. It was then that the light bulb went of ... There was fabulous furniture, great pieces of art and several antique dinner sets... Everything you need to run a restaurant. Doreen's passion for food & entertaining added the atmosphere. 1950, after several holes in the roof were fixed the Beaufield Mews served its first 'Wedding Breakfast' as it was known and shortly after, its first 'a la Carte' dinner. It was a wild & brave move as there were no other restaurants outside of hotels... the first stand alone restaruant in Dublin was born. Now, over 60 years later, the Beaufield Mews Restaurant still holds those traditions dear. The building has been lovingly restored and now houses two fantastic restaurants, the Coachouse on the ground floor and the unique Loft Brasserie upstairs. Antiques & art still adorn the walls and it has retained the olde world feel. The food, although modernised, still retains the traditions that Doreen instilled - seasonal, flavoursome dishes. "No hype, just fine, honest food"
